Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are adult stem cells found in various human tissues. First discovered in bone marrow, MSCs were later found to be more abundant and more active in umbilical cord tissue. MSCs possess “injury homing” properties — they sense inflammatory signals in the body and spontaneously migrate toward damaged or inflamed sites, achieving precise “site-directed repair”.
